Johnny Chung Lee, the man mentioned that 'invented' this technology, or rather invented this use for the Wiimote technology has made his software available for free on his website here: http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~johnny/projects/wii/.
I was actually just using it the other day using a Wiimote as the IR sensor with the Apple Remote from my Macbook as an IR source. Using the two in conjunction with the WiiWhiteboard software, I was able to create a virtual whiteboard and control my computer's mouse using the Apple Remote to move the mouse and click just by holding it by the projector screen where I wanted the to move and click.
If you have the other hardware already (computer and projector - or another large enough display), to get a Wiimote and high quality IR pen is only about $50, so you can create your own virtual whiteboard for significantly less than what commercial ones are selling for... having already having everything I needed, mine was free!
I am an undergrad student at the University of Waterloo currently in my third year of Honours Speech Communications and Business with a Human Resource Management specialization minoring in French.
